As you look into the various companies that can accomplish all the SEO work you need done for your website there are probably a lot of terms and phrases you don’t understand. In order that make a successful website, that is SEO friendly, you need to understand what some of these terms and phrases mean to you.

In this case, we’re going to take a closer look at long tail SEO. Long tail SEO or search engine optimization is a strategy of taking smaller result keywords and making them work together to have a major impact.

Here’s how it works. In this example you run a dentist office and are considering major keywords like dentist or dentistry in order to get the search engine rankings you want. But keep in mind, every other dentist who has a website is using those too.Instead you have to think more specific keywords that people may use.

For example, if you live in the Salt Lake area, why not use “Salt Lake dentist” or “dentist in Salt Lake” to get the attention of people in your specific area. This more specific keyword phrase is a long tail SEO keyword that will help you get a higher search engine ranking when people use that keyword phrase in search of a local dentist.

This may have you wondering, though, if all people searching for a dentist will use detailed keyword searches.Sure, there are going to be fewer people that type in that long tail SEO keyword than just ‘dentist’, but this is where the multiplication factor comes in.What the multiplication factor means is that you’re not just using one long tail SEO keyword; you’re going to use a lot of them.

You’re going to use lots of more specific keyword phrases such as “dentist for braces”, “Salt Lake root canal dentist” and other phrases that people may use when searching for a dentist in your area. As you create a variety of these long tail SEO keywords and connect them to your website you may be impressed and how many more search engine hits you get.

And when it comes to the bottom line, the general rule of thumb is the more detailed of a search a potential customer is doing the more likely they are ready to make a purchase. They are just using the search engine as a way to find the right provider. Therefore, the more intensive your long tail SEO is for your website, the higher you will rank in those specific searches and the more likely you are to get new business.
